An amendment to the Town of Paradise’s development regulations has been made in order to allow residential and commercial construction in the Market Ridge area near Kenmount Road.
Karwood Estate’s development plan includes 106 residential units, and four commercial buildings.
Deputy Mayor Kimberley Street noted that once the amendment goes through, an existing traffic study of the area will be updated to reflect the concept plan.
The amendment for Market Ridge was advertised in The Shoreline and on the Town’s website between October and November of this year.
Councillor Glen Carew clarified that while the amendment was required for the development, no change in zoning is necessary.
He lauded the residential density the project will bring to the area.
“There’s going to be some rental units and some units that are going to be more affordable,” he said. “This is the beginning of a good high-density area, so we can have more families and more people in our town.”
In September, council approved an application for a 111-lot residential subdivision between Octagon Pond and Trenton Drive.
Carew noted the affordability of the smaller lots included in that subdivision as well.
