Emma and Katie named recipients of the 2023 Youth VenturesNL Outstanding Venture of the Year Award

Two young girls from Conception Bay South who run their very own candy store were named recipients of the 2023 Youth Ventures
NL Outstanding Venture (17 years and under) of the Year Award. Emma, 11, and Katie, 7, Foss began selling candy kabobs in the
summer of 2022. The girls then attended a Youth Ventures Business Start Up session and learned more about what it takes to run a
successful small business. From there, they applied for a food selling licence and opened Emma and Katie’s Candy Shop, an online
store where folks can order custom loot bags for birthday parties and other occasions, candy boxes, candy bouquets, and more. The
girls used some of theie income to purchase a new printer for the business to better customize orders. Outside of the online store,
the girls also sell their treats at craft fairs, farmers markets, and other community events. The girls have done custom orders for
businesses such as Century 21, Veterans Affairs, Cenovus, K&D Pratt, and Energy NL, and have also made donations to local initiatives
such as the Field of Dreams and Sammy’s Climb Higher Foundation. The pair even gave a business presentation at the Town of
