Carbonear council moved to purchase several recreation items during the June 28 public meeting.

As reported previously in The Shoreline, council during the meeting approved a concrete base for the town’s second of two baseball scoreboards at a cost of $9,650 plus HST.

In addition, council also moved to install LED lighting on the infield and midfield at a cost of $30,857 plus HST.

Councillor Ray Noel asked roughly how many bulbs would be replaced.

Recreation Director Rob Button estimated about 14.

Noel then asked what the cost would have been to do the whole field. Button reckoned it at about $60,000.

Council also approved the supply and installation of PVS piping and wiring to connect the two scoreboards to the recreation building at a cost of $3,650 plus HST.

The electrical work for the scoreboards will be done by Oliver Controls and Electric.

Finally, council approved the purchase of pool toys and equipment at a cost of $4,032 plus HST and shipping from a company called Aquam.

“There’s a need to replace some of the PFDs (personal flotation devices) and some of the aerobics equipment, and get some new pool toys and floats, and so staff have done some research and came up with some items that we needed,” explained Button.
