SNC Lavalin gets nod to oversee roof work

By Craig Westcott / June 29, 2023

The Grand Concourse Authority is getting the contract to provide paving at the new community park in Long Pond.

Ward 1 councillor Shelly Moores, who chairs Conception Bay South’s recreation committee, made the motion at the June 13 public council meeting to award the work to the Grand Concourse Authority, which also has the contract to groom the T’Railway through CBS.

The paving contract is valued at $122,124, HST included.

“This project will allow the community park to be more accessible for all,” Moores said. “It will also assist with maintenance operations for the park.”

Moores noted the Town is using some $18,126 from a provincial government Building Age-Friendly grant to offset some of that cost.

“It’s always nice to get free money to help with those projects,” said Mayor Darrin Bent.

 In other recreation committee news:

The Town is buying up to $6,437 plus HST worth of 50th Anniversary promotional items from Islandwide Promotions.

“This is all part of the 50th Anniversary celebrations and the promotional items and accessories will be available through the online platform for all residents to buy,” Moores said.

Avalon Vending has won the limited call for proposals to provide snack vending services at the Town Hall, the Recreation Complex and the CBS Arena for the period June 15, 2023 to June 15, 2026.

The contract means the company is the exclusive provider of snack vending services at the sites.

“This is the same company that currently holds the contract so there should be no disruption in service,” Moores said.

And SNC Lavalin will serve as the prime consultant overseeing the roof replacement at the Wastewater Treatment Plant at Cronin’s Head in Kelligrews. The engineering company will be paid $62,269, including HST, to supervise the construction company that will be hired to replace the roof.
