CBS workers get nine percent raise over four years

By Craig Westcott / June 9, 2023

Unionized workers and managers with the Town of CBS will see a nine percent wage increase over the next four years.

The Town released the numbers last week.

The increase will be implemented in four stages year over year with raises of two percent effective January 1 this year and two percent effective January 1, 2024, and then raises of 2.5 percent in January 2025 and in January 2026. Workers will also get a 20 cents per hour increase per classification in the final year of the contract.

There are also increases in the amounts paid for meal allowances, on call pay and other allowances.

“The new agreement has operational changes which enhance services by allowing for greater flexibility in evening and weekend scheduling, without incurring overtime costs,” noted the Town’s Manager of Communications, Maggie Hynes.

The agreement covers some 180 inside and outside workers, including staff at the Town’s recreation facilities and fire department along with another 33 people in management.

As an example of the raises, a labourer with the Town who now earns $26.63 per hour will make $28.74 per hour in 2026. Likewise, a maintenance custodian earning $30.55 per hour now will move to $32.94 per hour by year four of the deal.
