Paradise renews recreation deal with DND

By Mark Squibb / June 2, 2023

The Town of Paradise earlier this month signed an agreement with the Department of National Defense, but that doesn’t mean the town is going to house any military rockets anytime soon.

Councillor Larry Vaters explained the Department of National Defense has been paying $3,500 annually since 2018 for military members in the community to access the fitness centre and skating rink at the Double Ice Complex free of charge, and the Department wished to renew the deal.

Council was agreeable to renewing the deal for another two years, and the motion passed unanimously.

The approval of the agreement is subject to a final review by staff.

Under the new deal, military personnel will be able to access the services free of charge until 2025.
