Murphy’s get contract to supply sods for Paradise

In a sign that summer must surely be around the corner, the Town of Paradise has purchased over $237,000 worth of sod and topsoil.
“Each year, the Public Works Department budgets for topsoil and sodding services,” explained councillor Patrick Martin. “The sodding service is required to repair any property damages that may have occurred during the winter season, along with repairs and upgrades to parks and playing fields.”
The Town invited tenders for the supply and installation of sods, and Martin said while four local companies expressed interest in the tender, only one submitted a qualifying bid by the close of the deadline.
That lone bid was from Murphy’s Services at a bid amount of $237,187, HST included, subject to final review by staff.
The costs were broken down over four categories; supply and installation of topsoil and sod in areas greater than 100 square feet at $2.40 per square foot; supply and installation of topsoil and sod in areas less than 100 square feet at $1.95 per square foot; supply and installation of sod only per square foot at $1.25; supply of topsoil only per tonne at $30 per tonne and supply of sod only per square foot at $1.25.
The motion passed unanimously.
