Tender called on Minerals Road upgrades

By Craig Westcott/March 17, 2023

CBS council gave the go-ahead last week for staff to call tenders on a multi-million upgrade to Minerals Road in Long Pond.

“I understand this project will be similar to what we’ve done at Lawrence Pond and Fowler’s Road, and Legion Road as well?” asked councillor-at large Rex Hillier, after public works committee chairperson Melissa Hardy made the motion to call the tender.

Hardy said Minerals Road will be brought up to the same standard as the roads cited by Hillier, including the installation of traffic calming bumps.

“Good, said Hillier. “It’s going to be a nice project.”

Councillor-at-large Christine Butler said she was glad to see the tender on the agenda. “And I’m sure residents will be pleased to get improvements there,” she added. “And I believe the improvements include sidewalks. That adds to it.”

Mayor Darrin Bent this project will see the completion of upgrades to the last major connector road from Route 60 to Peacekeepers Way.

“So, we’re glad to get this tender out and to get it done and then all the major connectors will be up to a really great standard,” he said.

Minerals Road is located in one of the busiest areas of town with the start of the street at the intersection of Kitty Ade’s Turn and the T’railway.
