Paradise to hold AAA Atlantics

The Town of Paradise will play host to the U13AAA Atlantic 2023 hocky tournament and will help cover some of the costs associated with the event.

“Paradise Minor Hockey is requesting financial assistance from the Town to help reduce the cost to the association to host the 2023 U13AAA Atlantics,” said councillor Elizabeth Laurie.

The tournament will run from March 30 to April 2, and five teams — two from Newfoundland and one each from Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and PEI — will participate.

Twelve games will be played.

“As is to be expected, this event is going to draw a large number of people, both locally and as well as from out of province,” said Laurie. “This is a great opportunity to showcase our town facilities.”

Laurie explained Paradise Minor Hockey typically pays $170 per hour for ice time, and so the organization’s request for the Town to cover half of the cost amounted to $2,550.

Council voted unanimously to pay for half the ice time rental fee.

In 2022, Paradise hosted the U18 event, and council at that time also donated the cost of half the ice time required to host it.
