Moores hoping for a ‘normal’ Winterfest

By Craig Westcott/January 6, 2023

Ward 1 councillor Shelley Moores is hoping this coming Winterfest in CBS will be the first one in four years that won’t be drastically curtailed by Covid-19.

Moores, who chairs council’s Winterfest committee, said the group held its first meeting in mid December.

“It was great to have it in person,” she said. “I think there was close to 15 people there. So, it was very encouraging to see everyone wanting to be involved and there was a lot of discussion about getting things back to the way they were in 2019 with a lot of sports competitions and activities and stuff outside. There was a lot of great new ideas, so we’re very excited to get that going forward.”

Moores thanked the residents who have volunteered to join the committee. “And I think there were actually four or five who weren’t able to make that particular meeting, so there is lots of interest,” she added.

Mayor Darrin Bent pointed out this Winterfest coincides with the Town’s 50th anniversary of incorporation celebrations.

Ward 3 councillor Gerard Tilley, who also serves on the Winterfest committee, seconded Moores’ remarks on the residents who have accepted invitations to volunteer with the group.

“I’m excited, even though we’ve had one meeting, I think it’s going to be an exciting 2023, especially from the birthday side of Conception Bay South,” Tilley said. “Some of the people we have identified (as volunteers) are excited, they’ve got some ideas and they are certainly going to go back and do some brainstorming over the holidays and we’re going to be in full force in the new year.”
