Paradise replaces more town vehicles

By Mark Squibb/December 9, 2022

The Town of Paradise has purchased four new vehicles to replace some of the town’s older vehicles.

During last week’s meeting, Deputy Mayor Kimberley Street explained that the Public Works department had budgeted to replace 10 light-duty vehicles in 2021-22.

On August 2, 2022, council pre-approved the Public Works department to source and purchase vehicles directly from dealerships based on availability and best value.

“Over the past few weeks, the department has been successful in obtaining four light-duty trucks, in addition to the vehicles purchased in September,” said Street.

The vehicles included two GMC Canyon pickups from Terra Nova Motors in St. John’s, a Chevrolet Colorado pickup from Hickman Motors in St. John’s, and a Chevrolet Equinox all wheel drive, also from Hickman Motors.

The two GMC pick ups cost $44,850 each, plus HST, for a total of $103,164, HST included. The Colorado cost $48,182, HST included, while the Equinox cost $33,468, HST included.

The vehicles Street mentioned that had already been purchased in the fall included two from Hickman Auto Group bought at a total cost of $65,798, HST included, and two from Dennis GM at a cost of $89,230 HST included.

Council did not say whether the department would be looking to purchase two more vehicles to make an even 10 new trucks for the fleet.
