The Shoreline News and the Northeast Avalon Times were dual recipients of the 2022 Jack Allston Memorial Award in Media Excellency earlier this month. The awards were presented by the Newfoundland & Labrador Association of Professional Planners at its annual general meeting held at the Torbay Common. On hand for the presentations were, from left: NLAPP president Julia Schwarz, Northeast Avalon Times editor and publisher Kathryn Welbourn, Shoreline reporter Mark Squibb, who accepted on behalf of publisher and editor Craig Westcott, and Peter Allston, the son of Jack Allston. Col. Jack T. Allston  was a WWII veteran, former President of the Town Planning Institute of Canada, a founding member of the Atlantic Planners Institute, and a Director of Planning with the provincial government. While working with provincial government, Allston introduced the Urban and Rural Planning Act. Aggi Westcott photo
