Farrell’s Excavating hired to grade overflow lot for community park

Farrell’s Excavating has been contracted to grade the parking lots at 196-202 Conception Bay Highway in Long Pond to accommodate overflow parking for the new $4.3 million CBS community park located behind Dominion Supermarket.

The contract is valued at $17,649 + HST.

“That of course is the parking lot of the old Greenslade property where we’re using as extra parking for our community park,” said Ward 3 councillor Gerard Tilley, who chairs the Town’s public works committee.

In January, the Town signed an agreement with Doug and Derek Greenslade to rent two gravel lots, located at 196-198 and 200-202 Conception Bay Highway respectively, for $2,000 per month until January 1, 2026, at which time the agreement may be renewed. The lots are located between the former Avalon Club and T & T Auto on Route 60. The Town agreed to “pay the cost of all alterations, additions, or maintenance,” and to pay the owners’ property taxes on the lots. The Town was given the first option to buy the property, should the Greenslades decide to sell it.

In somewhat related public works committee news, Farrell’s Contracting was also awarded a Standing Offer Agreement for the rental of a 20-tonne excavator operator at the rate of $170.20 per hour.

According to the minutes of the public works committee’s August 9 meeting, Farrell’s Excavating was the lone bidder for the contract.
