Older ‘boys of summer’ asked to leave All Saints pitch to young ones

Council has ordered staff to erect signs at All Saints softball field in Foxtrap warning adults not to play pickup games on the pitch, which was designed for the use of minor league players.

During this week’s council meeting, Mayor Darrin Bent said council has received calls from residents living near the field who are concerned about people using the facility in the evenings.

Bent said the facility is intended for the use of children up to the age of 14.

“And people over that age, and after hours, shouldn’t be there,” he said. “I just want the community and residents to know that if they know of people going down there to ask them not to, because the people going down there are hitting balls outside the park … and sometimes the balls go outside and they’re going into neighbourhoods and back yards and so forth, and residents in that area are concerned about it. So hopefully we can bring that to a stop.”

Bent added the Town’s municipal enforcement officers have been told about the activity and the Town has notified the RNC inspector responsible for the area. “They’ll be doing some extra patrols in that area,” he said. “But the new signage will give them the power to take action and hopefully alleviate that safety issue.”
