Paradise alert app going dark

By Mark Squibb/March 3, 2022

If you rely on the Pingstreet app to receive alerts from the Town of Paradise, you may be disappointed to hear the service is coming to an end.

Councillor Larry Vaters raised the issue in the opening minutes of this week’s public meeting.

“As we know, of course, Pingstreet will eventually go offline, I’m just wondering if we have an update as to when exactly it will be discontinued,” asked Vaters.

Councillor Elizabeth Laurie answered that communications staff have been working on the issue, but she didn’t know for sure when the service would go dark.

“It will likely be sometime in the month of March,” said Laurie.

CAO Lisa Niblock said that she didn’t have any further information, but she could find out more and e-mail details to council.

The Town rolled out the app, along with a new website, in March of 2016. Using location-based data, residents could stay up to date on garbage and recycling schedules, town announcements, and upcoming events. Residents could also report a problem directly to the Town through the app.

It was not clarified in the discussion whether the app itself was going dark, or if the Town is simply discontinuing the service.
