Life is a little brighter for ball players in Paradise.

Last week, the Town of Paradise hosted the ceremonial switching on of the newly installed spotlights at the ballfield at Peter Barry Duff Memorial Park.

The ceremony took place Tuesday evening, Aug. 6.

The lighting system was dedicated to the memory of Jacob Puddister, son of executive chairman Larry Puddister of Pennecon, which contributed some $175,000 towards the project.

“Jacob was funny, and passionate, and so very generous,” said Deidre Puddister, the environment manager at Pennecon and niece of Jacob Puddister. “So, it’s perfect that his name will always be a part of the lights that will brighten up this ball field for years to come.”

The Town approved a tender of $509,450 from Newfoundland HVAC for the project during a Feb. 5 council meeting.

The bottom line was helped along by two sizable donations; $150,000 from the Jays Care Foundation which was secured by Paradise Minor Baseball, and the funding from Pennecon.

The first game played under the lights was between the Paradise Phantoms and Conception Bay South Raiders.
