Badminton enthusiasts celebrate another successful Jim Webb tourney

Forty-three athletes participated in the Eighth Annual Jim Webb Memorial Badminton Tournament held at Frank Roberts Junior High as part of CBS Winterfest on Saturday.

The tournament is a memorial to a coach who devoted many years to instructing and encouraging young badminton athletes in Conception Bay South.

This year’s tourney saw Stephanie Stanley and Mark O’Brien win gold placings in the Senior Recreation Doubles category, with Kelly Aung and Andy Chen taking the consolation prize.

In Women’s Competitive Doubles, Kuei Fen Kuo and Sarah Aubert won gold, while Philemon Leung and Zhi Hao Chia took the Men’s Competitive Doubles category. Chad Peddle and Travis Rideout took silver in that group with Brad Walsh and Jon Pawson taking bronze.

The consolation prize went to Fuquiang Fan and Zhivu Chen.

Emma Tilley was the Top Junior Female player.
