Paradise lot to remain closed until November

By Mark Squibb

The Canada Summer Games are over and the crowds have long gone home, and folks in Paradise may be wondering when they’ll be able to park at Paradise Park once again.
The parking lot, you may remember, was shut down to accommodate construction of a temporary volleyball court for the games. This was in addition to two new ‘legacy’ volleyball courts constructed near the dog park for long term resident enjoyment.
Councillor Glen Carew, during last week’s committee of the whole meeting, asked when the competition courts would be deconstructed and the parking lot once again made ready for use, as well as what will be done with the sand.
Public works lead councillor Tommy Maher said the parking lot should be open to the public by mid-November and the sand will be relocated to the permanent legacy courts.
The courts cost roughly a million dollars, including $360,000 worth of specialized sand purchased by the Town in December of 2023.
