Latest seal wrinkle baits Bartlett’s ire

I have to give up listening to the news, it’s driving me crazy.

It was reported on the Fisheries Broadcast if we use seal meat for bait for lobster and crab, we will not be allowed to sell these products in the marketplace. A company in the Maritimes has developed a bait for crab and lobster using seal meat and wastage from other fish and proved to be excellent.

The three main species of bait used for this fishery is herring, mackerel and squid, which is also important species that are used as food for mankind and are getting very scarce. In fact, we can’t fish mackerel or pick it up on the beach to eat or use for bait (a Federal law).

We have an ocean overpopulated with seals, both harp and greys, that we’re not allowed to sell and they are completely destroying most everything in the ocean and we can’t use them for a little bait. Instead, we have to keep harvesting the herring, mackerel and squid till there is nothing left of these important species that are needed to feed a hungry world. Remember the cod. We have upset the balance of nature in the ocean.

If we want to save our oceans, it’s time to elect politicians with common sense before it’s too late.
