Anniversary marked by tree donation

Members of Spaniard’s Bay council held a tree planting earlier this month thanks to a special donation from the Roman Catholic Presentation Sisters of Newfoundland. The Nuns are marking the 250th anniversary of the Order in Newfoundland by donating 100 trees for planting throughout the province. Twenty of the trees were presented to the Stewardship Association of Municipalities which accepted applications from towns interested in having one. On hand for the planting of a serviceberry tree in Ryan’s Brook Mini Park were, from left: Spaniard’s Bay resident Marilyn Barrett, Deputy Mayor Sherry Lundrigan, councillor Debbie Newman, the stewardship’s outreach coordinator Karleena Squires, Mayor Tammy Oliver, and Harbour Grace – Port de Grave MHA Pam Parsons.
