Bobbett dons the Liberal mantle in Topsail-Paradise

By Mark Squibb

Paradise Mayor Dan Bobbett has been named the Liberal candidate for Topsail-Paradise.
The Party announced Bobbett’s candidacy last Tuesday and Bobbett confirmed the nomination during the public council meeting that same evening, sharing a few brief words with council and staff.
“I look forward to getting out and knocking on doors in Topsail-Paradise, and so this could be my very last meeting,” said Bobbett. “I have enjoyed working with each and every one of you, and past councils and staff as well. Depending on when the writ drops, I will resign my seat at that time. But I will be here until then and deal with issues, as we do, on a daily basis.”
Bobbett has held the chain of office since 2013 and served two terms on council prior to being elected mayor.
Last December, Bobbett announced his intention to put his name forward as a federal Conservative candidate under Pierre Poilevre but later withdrew from the race. Earlier this summer, he shared with The Shoreline that he would not be seeking re-election as mayor so he could spend more time with his family, the same reason, said Bobbett, that he withdrew from the federal race.
At the time, he did not rule out another run for council, this time as a councillor again and not as mayor.
Bobbett will find himself vying for votes against another Paradise council alumnus, Progressive Conservative incumbent Paul Dinn, who has held the district since January, 2019.
