CBS T’Railway Trek back on… no word whether goat will defend title
By Craig Westcott
The Town of Conception Bay South is rolling out the second installment of its T’Railway Trek Half-Marathon, following up on the inaugural run last year where the training and perspiration-fueled efforts of the participants were eclipsed by Joshua the Goat, who slipped his tether in Foxtrap to join the runners and leg it all the way to the finish line at Topsail Beach, inspiring fans around the world and even a children’s book.
This year’s event is set for September 21, and like last year, will follow the 21kms of coastline and back country of the former railroad track from Seal Cove in the west to Topsail Beach in the east. More runners are expected this year as the Town has broadened the registration list to include 500 people, and possibly one domesticated ruminant of the Capra hircus variety. It will be a chip-timed course with participants getting personalized bibs, T’Railway inspired finishers medals and a shirt for their $65 registration fee. The registration portal on the Town’s website opened July 25.
“This extraordinary race takes you on a journey through history,” said Ward 1 councillor Shelley Moores. “You race across the historic path of the old Newfoundland railbed as you travel through the nine beautiful coastal communities of the town of Conception Bay South. The T’Railway Trek Half-Marathon offers a scenic and unique challenging cross-country course that you won’t want to miss… I encourage you – because this is going to sell out fast again this year – that if you’re someone who wants to run a half marathon and run through our beautiful community, then be ready to register as soon as it opens.”
