Bar contract awarded at Manuels River Centre

By Craig Westcott

The Manuels River Centre may be closed for the summer while its new owner works out its plans for the fall, but in the meantime it still needs a bar services contract in place. And to that end, CBS council, which took over the facility earlier this year, has taken care of just that.
Ward 3 councillor Gerard Tilley, who chairs council’s procurement committee, said the contract has been awarded to WAM events.
While the centre remains closed to the public for the summer with no reopening date set, the Town is honouring weddings and special events that were booked previous to the transfer of ownership.
Tilley said the contract is “per the terms outlined in the RFP (Request for Proposals)” which the Town issued earlier this year. However, no details about those terms were outlined at the public council meeting in which the contract was awarded.
“We still require bar services for certain kinds of events,” Tilley said. “So, we called an RFP and this group was the successful bidder.”
Mayor Darrin Bent noted that upgrades and other work is continuing at the centre. “We look forward to it restarting and some more events going on there later this year.”
