Tear it down, Carbonear council orders
By Craig Westcott
A Carbonear resident who didn’t follow the rules of the permit for tearing down his property will see the home demolished anyway, but this time at the order of council.
The property is located on English Hill.
Deputy Mayor Fred Earle noted the permit was issued for the construction of a new dwelling at the property, but it was conditional upon the removal of the old structure. The provision of water and sewer services to the new home was also conditional upon the old house being torn down.
“Whereas the applicant did not complete demolition of the pre-existing dwelling in accordance with the conditions of the permit issued, be it resolved to send an order to demolish the pre-existing dwelling,” Earle asked by way of motion.
The motion carried unanimously.
In other development news, council refused an application to build an accessory building at a property on London Road because the building would exceed the maximum lot coverage allowed.
That motion too passed unanimously.
