Harbour Grace mayor feeling buoyant about town’s business prospects

Harbour Grace Mayor Terry Barnes is hoping his town will see business growth next year, feeling buoyed by plans that have already been announced by several major companies.
Barnes said Harbour Grace Ocean Industries, which repairs and refits marine vessels, is looking to make a big expansion. The Shree Hari Group, the new owners of the former Terra Nova Shoes building, is preparing to receive equipment to start a nanocellulose business called Shree Hari Nanotech, he added, while also looking for land to start an agriculture operation. And finally is also hoping that Harbour Grace Cold Storage expands its operations in 2026.
Then there’s the usual developments, such as municipal infrastructure projects. The Town has called for bids from companies interested in taking on water and sewer upgrades to the South Side. Barnes hopes the contract for that work will be awarded in early January and that construction on the first phase will be begin in March or April.
