By Olivia Bradbury / Local Journalism Initiative Reporter

Spaniard’s Bay council members are mourning the loss of longtime councillor Eric Jewer, who passed away November 18 at the age of 63 after a battle with cancer.
“I first want to pass on our sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Eric Jewer,” said Mayor Tammy Oliver at the outset of the Town’s November 25 council meeting. “As many of you already know, Eric served on council for 20 years and had been a crucial and invaluable part of our community. He will be greatly missed for sure.”
Jewer was very involved in and dedicated to his town. He finished up his latest term on council this past fall. Jewer also volunteered at his parish, Holy Redeemer Anglican Church. He enjoyed his job at Bay Roberts Distributors, where he worked for 36 years.
Monetary donations are being made in his memory to the Spaniard’s Bay/Tilton Volunteer Fire Department.
In addition to Oliver, sitting councillors Sherry Lundrigan and Debbie Newman also served on council with Jewer last term.
Jewer is remembered as a kind man who was devoted to his family. He is survived by his soulmate, Maxine, his four children, his seven grandchildren, and a wide circle of relatives and friends.
