Second tender missed deadline for Holyrood’s roof repairs

By Craig Westcott

Holyrood council is looking to get on top of its maintenance requirements at a couple of public buildings by awarding a contract for roof repairs.
On Top Roofing will be paid $50,255, HST included, for upgrades to the roof of the Fire Hall, and a further $36,088, HST included, for upgrades to the roof of the Heritage Building.
Infrastructure committee chairman Steve Winsor said On Top’s bid was the only one that came in by the tender deadline. One other bid was received, but it came in first thing Monday morning following the Friday 4 p.m. deadline.
“To ensure the integrity of the procurement process, the late bid was not acceptable,” Winsor said.
Councillor Laura Crawley pointed out the money for the roofing jobs was already earmarked in this year’s budget and contingent on Holyrood getting a higher federal gas tax return and is actually less than what was allotted.
“It’s all part and parcel of maintaining your municipal infrastructure,” said Mayor Gary Goobie. “You don’t wait ’til you have a leaky building and problems. You do these repairs and replacements on a regular basis as needed to prevent further issues from happening.”
