Mayor Darrin Bent places the first-place medal around the neck of Alexander Whalen who placed first in the Kelligrews Soiree 8K Road Race sponsored by Tim Horton’s on Saturday, July 5. The 23-year-old crossed the line in 29 minutes and 37 seconds. It was his first time running in the event.
The fastest female runner was Brittany Fitzgerald, 38, also of CBS, who marked her third win in the women’s division. Her time was 33 minutes and 30 seconds. Some 179 runners showed up for the opening horn out of the 200 who had registered. They faced overcast skies and 94 per cent humidity which made the 18-degree temperature feel a lot warmer.
