Patrick Condon of K-ROCK gnashes his way through a tray of battered squid rings last Sunday during the calamari eating contest at Holyrood Squidfest. Condon and his partner Adam Crawley of Holyrood, won the contest defeating the other two teams, Chris Clemens and Chelsea Winsor of CBS and father and son duo Curtis and Jackson Smith also of CBS. The event was sponsored by The Station Diner, which also prepared the calamari. Craig Westcott photo.

They’re a scary looking crew all right, but that didn’t deter children from asking to get their pictures taken with them. One of the groups attending Holyrood Squidfest events last weekend was the Raiders of the Avalon NL pirate group, some of whose members include, starting from left, Racy Garter (Brenda Noseworthy), Gunner (Pat Farrell), Salty Dog (Wayne Leonard), Lady Elizabeth (Elizabeth Parsons), and Raven (Beverly Dawe).
