King pleased with community centre tender call
By Mark Squibb
Sadie King had good news for her fellow councillors in Holyrood this week— in fact, more than good, she said, it was great news that she had to share.
“The request for proposals for the community centre is now with Municipal Affairs, and they are hoping to have it posted by Friday,” King said. “The project includes a feasibility study, schematic design estimate and presentation to council. This will determine the most economical centre for the town, with the goal being to determine the size of the building and services that will be most beneficial to the residents.”
The announcement was met by a round of applause from council.
King has been at the forefront of a campaign for a new community centre in Holyrood for some time now, and in February council accepted some $908,060 in 2023-2026 multi-year capital works funding from the Province to help offset the cost of the new centre.
Prior to that, council had accepted nearly $100,000 in government funding to put towards the design of the community centre.
