Games purchases will help recreation for years to come, says Yetman

Bay Roberts council last month unanimously approved the purchase of new soccer nets.
Council had budgeted for the nets, along with other recreation upgrades, in Budget 2024 to prepare for this year’s Newfoundland and Labrador Summer Games, which the town is hosting.
Councillor Dean Franey moved that council award the contract for the supply and delivery of new soccer goals to Sportscraft.
Franey noted that besides the Summer Games, the new nets will greatly benefit the CBN Lightning soccer program.
“This is another example of doing something for the Summer Games that will benefit us years down the road,” said Mayor Walter Yetman.
The Town allocated $225,000 this year to cover additional labour costs and facility improvements, such as the new soccer nets. The arena, pool, tennis courts, soccer field and softball fields will all see enhancements.
The Town also allocated $250,000 to the Summer Games host committee to help meet operational needs, and $150,000 for the replacement of the stage at the Bay Arena.
