Windfall will aid bevy of smaller jobs

Carbonear council last week voted to reallocate $447,639 in unspent Canada Building Fund monies to the Powell Drive Phase III project.
Town CAO Cynthia Davis explained the Town submits project estimates to the government officials who administer the fund, and if approved, get the amount that was estimated.
In regard to the Powell Drive Phase III project, the winning tender was less than the Town’s estimate for the work, and so council voted to reallocate the funding so as not to lose it.
Deputy Mayor Sam Slade moved that council reallocate the funds. Councillor Malcolm Seymour seconded the motion, and council approved it unanimously.
Council is redirecting the money to other projects including High Road South ($80,678), Grassey Lane ($14,997), High Road North ($39,014), Scarlet Ridge ($40,560), Crockers Cove Bridge Replacement ($39,107), Water Street East ($156,196), and Powell Drive Phase 1 ($77,085).
