Council hears plea for better washrooms at the CBS pool

By Mark Squibb

CBS council last week unanimously voted to hire Jewer Bailey Consultants as prime consultants for washroom enhancements at the CBS Recreation Complex at a cost of $35,000 plus HST.

Funding for the work was approved under the 2023-2026 multi-year capital works funding, which is cost shared with the provincial government.

“Residents might recall back last fall, or certainly at some point last year, we put forward our priorities for the multi-year capital works program, we wanted to do some renovations in our male and family change rooms at the Recreation Complex, so this is part and parcel of what this work will cover in terms of some of the design work and so, we are hoping this work will take place during regular pool shutdown as well,” explained councillor-at-large Josh Barrett. “Obviously there might be some longer than usual shutdowns, but we’re hoping it will overlap with (regular) shutdowns to try and limit disruptions to residents as much as possible.”

Barrett said residents have been requesting the renovations, and he’s glad council is pursing them.

“It’s an old facility and is serving to capacity, and it’s time to upgrade some of it, as we have learned,” said Mayor Darrin Bent.
