Climbing higher together for Sammy

An array of community supporters banded together last month to make a fundraising day for the Sammy’s Climb Higher Foundation a great success. In total, some $14,958 was raised. The foundation, created in memory of young CBS athlete and friend to many, Sammy Porter, helps families cover registration costs for sports, recreational and arts programs for their children. Most of the money was raised at a senior hockey game featuring the hometown Baker Flooring CB Blues who donated proceeds from the gate, a 50/50 draw and jersey sales. The CBS Kin Club added $1,000 from the Tim Horton’s Chuck-A-Puck and club account, and then added a further $2,000, thanks to the Co-operators Advisor Community Fund and Rhonda Nugent of CBS Co-operators Insurance. Some of those participating in the big fundraising included, starting in the back row, from left: Kin members Sharon Maher, Lorne Morgan, Dave Pond, Tracy Lawrence, Jill Taylor, Diane Butler, and Don Butler; and in the front, Sammy’s friends Luke Scott and Mason Wiscombe, and his mom, Angie Porter.
