Harbour Grace has hopes raised that Bannerman River Bridge will get replaced

By Mark Squibb

The Town of Harbour Grace may be one step closer to seeing the Bannerman River Bridge replaced.
During last week’s public meeting, Deputy Mayor Keith Skinner told council the provincial government had recognized the work as a priority.
“We have been advised that this bridge replacement has been added to their priority list for the next financial, 2024-25 (season) which is contingent on the budget available,” said Skinner. “So hopefully, we will see something done with that in the next year.”
Council had previously deemed the bridge unsafe for heavy vehicles and had met with the fire department to discuss alternative routes for fire vehicles.
The bridge, built in 1969, spans the Bannerman River along Harvey Street as it feeds into the bay near the site of the SS Kyle.
