Province finds 50K to help Bay Roberts host Summer Games

Bay Roberts Mayor Walter Yetman, during this week’s public meeting, said he was pleased to receive word that the provincial government, through the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts and Recreation’s Active NL Fund program, approved a grant for the town totalling $50,000.

The money is earmarked for facility upgrades ahead of the 2024 NL Summer Games, which are being hosted by the Town of Bay Roberts.

“We certainly appreciate the money, and we are certainly going to put it to good use,” said Yetman.

Town CAO Nigel Black said that money would be used for some smaller infrastructure projects that had previously been identified.

Council expressed its appreciation to both Harbour Grace- Port de Grave MHA Pam Parsons and Tourism Minister Steve Crocker for helping to secure the money.

The Games will be held from August 10th through to the 17th. Hundreds of athletes and their supporters are expected to participate.

Bay Roberts was initially scheduled to host the Games in 2020, but the they were postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
