CBS council, during the November 7 public meeting, approved $60,000 worth of maintenance work on the Topsail lift station.

Public works committee chairperson Melissa Hardy said staff found issues that needed to be addressed during regular, routine maintenance.

She noted the lift station is one of the oldest, as well as the largest, in town, and services Topsail down through to Kelligrews.

“We’re glad we found this early, because obviously the cost could be a little bit more significant being that it is one of our largest lift stations,” said Hardy.

Mayor Darrin Bent agreed and allowed the lift station “worked pretty hard.”

A recommendation from the public works committee to call for requests for proposals for engineering consulting services for 2024 street paving, sidewalks, and water sewer works was also approved.

“We’re getting ready for the 2024 season, and the faster you get your proposals out, the more it helps with your lead time on the back end,” said Hardy. “Once you get them back in, you can award them.”
