Residents of Seal Cove, recreational boaters, and hikers alike will be glad to hear that CBS council has approved a motion to tender the replacement of the T’railway Bridge in Seal Cove.

“All the permits are now in place to tender the documents and they’re all under final review,” said Ward 4 councillor Melissa Hardy.

Mayor Darrin Bent said the motion is welcome news to the people of Seal Cove.

“Work is getting done,” said Bent. “This has been talked about as long as I’ve been on council, for sure.”

Back in April, the federal government committed $811,000 to replace the bridge and upgrade the final leg of the T’railway in Seal Cove.

The dilapidated structure has proven troublesome for boaters attempting to pass the bridge to access Conception Bay.

The money was part of a larger funding announcement, which also included the purchase of wayfinding signs that can now be seen around town and the establishment of a root cellar and cannery at the Manuels River Interpretation Centre.

All told, the federal, provincial, and municipal governments pledged to contribute $1.6 million for the three projects.
