Bay Roberts Council has approved the purchase of five rear step starting blocks for the swimming pool at a cost of $29,508 from Aquam Aquatic Specialist Inc.
The amount is higher than previously estimated in this year’s budget, prompting Recreation Director Dave Tibbo to request that council re-allocate some $15,000 that was previously earmarked for new lighting timers for the tennis courts. The swimming pool blocks have a heightened priority.
Councillor Jeff Seymour wondered if the lighting timers were essential for the 2024 NL Summer Games which Bay Roberts will host next year.
Chief Administrative Officer Nigel Black assured him that the recreation director did not deem the lighting as essential for the games.
