Paradise council approves new look for Lombardy park

By Mark Squibb / August 4, 2023

Residents of an Elizabeth Park subdivision will be glad to hear that one of their parks is getting a makeover.

During this week’s public meeting, councillor Patrick Martin noted that a number of parks around town need some care, especially as they age. One such area is Lombardy Place Park.

“Lombardy Place Park is one of the oldest parks in Paradise and provides several different courts that allow for tennis, ball hockey, and basketball,” said Martin. “However, these courts need a refresh.”

The work includes crack sealing, a protective base layer, new asphalt, and line painting. The refresh will also allow for pickle ball.

Tennis Construction Ltd., was the lone company to bid on the project, bidding $57,498, inclusive of HST.

“This is great to see happen,” said Deputy Mayor Kimberely Street. “These upgrades to Lombardy Park will be greatly appreciated and well used by residents.”

Councillors Larry Vaters and Glen Carew also took a moment to voice their support for the project.

The work at Lombardy Place Park is part of the much larger Elizabeth Park Refresh project, a multi-phase effort started by coucnil in 2022 that will see several improvements to recreation amenities, such as parks and trails, within the subdivision, which is one of Paradise’s oldest outdoor facilities.
