Traffic issue will resolve itself, says Jenkins

Construction around the south side of Carbonear has resulted in an increase in traffic, but council says there is not much that can be done.

Councillors in the Town of Carbonear met for their regular meeting on Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 14. During the meeting, councillor Vic Jenkins addressed an increase in speeding concerns along O’Driscoll’s Lane.

The street, which is located just alongside the hospital, has become a common detour for people who wish to avoid the construction taking place in front of the facility, and Jenkins said that has resulted in increased speeds.

Jenkins said when construction is over, he hopes this issue will resolve on its own as traffic numbers decrease.

“There’s not much I can say other than to monitor it,” he said.

Although municipal elections are right around the corner, council wanted to make sure they get an extra meeting in before the big day, and decided to host another meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 21.
