Yetman hoping for promotion to Mayor’s chair in Bay Roberts

By Craig Westcott/August 19, 2021

Bay Roberts Deputy Mayor Walter Yetman made it official Tuesday night: he will be in the running for the position of Mayor in September’s municipal election.

Yetman was actually in the mayor’s chair Tuesday as he was filling in for the soon to be retiring Mayor Philip Wood, who is recovering from surgery. He used the closing minutes of the public meeting to make the announcement.

“After 16 years, eight as councillor and eight as deputy mayor, and after much thought and discussion with family and friends, I’ve decided not to pursue the position of councillor in the upcoming municipal election,” said Yetman. “I am however very happy, and humbled, to announce that I will be putting my name forward for mayor for the Town of Bay Roberts.”

Yetman said he wishes all candidates in the election the very best.

“Serving on municipal council can be a very challenging, but very rewarding experience and I commend all those who want to take on that challenge,” he said. “I’ve been here a long time. It’s very challenging, but it’s worth it. It’s a very gratifying experience at the end of the day. It can be trying at times, but I would encourage anyone who wants to take on that challenge to sign up on nomination day.”
