Council gives Chamberlains Park boardwalk committee a lift

The Town of Conception Bay South is lending a helping hand to the volunteer group dedicated to maintaining Chamberlains Park

On Tuesday, Dec. 15, during the regular meeting of CBS council, councillor Christine Butler presented a motion council to approve a donation to the Chamberlains Park Action Committee. The committee has been working to make trails in the park more accessible and safe for trail users where construction of a new boardwalk is currently underway.

However, as Butler pointed out, the committee fell a little short of money in its budget this past summer, and, without help, would have struggled to bring the project to completion.

The committee does have applications submitted to different funding organizations, but Butler said council wanted to make sure the group could finish the boardwalk project sooner, rather than later.

“The Chamberlains Park Action Committee has done a tremendous job at making their trail fully accessible,” Butler said. “We wanted to support them in completing their project, should the funds be required.”

Council voted unanimously to pass Butler’s motion for a $29,000 donation to the committee. Butler said that’s enough to complete the boardwalk.

“Money well spent,” added councillor Rex Hillier.
