Paradise scoreboard coming a year late, but under budget

By Mark Squibb/August 26, 2022

Paradise council has awarded the contract for the installation of a new scoreboard at the Peter Barry Duff baseball field that is well under budget.

“A tender to supply and install a specific make, model, and size scoreboard, including foundation and other civil and electrical work closed with four bids received,” councillor Diane Quilty reported last week. The bids were from Top Notch Electrical at $65,981, E.C. Boone at $83,419, Farrells Excavating at $96,410 and Tempo Construction Management Inc., at $102,635.

Quilty noted the Paradise Baseball Association is funding $5,000 towards the purchase and installation of the scoreboard, a carryover project from 2021 which was originally budgeted at $100,000, plus additional funding for football uprights.

“With award to the lowest bidder, this project would be under budget by about $30,000,” said Quilty. “That budget savings is expected to be diverted to the eventual installation of football uprights at another location.”

The contact was awarded to the lowest qualified bidder, Top Notch Electrical, at $65,981, including HST.

The motion passed unanimously.

“This will be another nice project, your Worship, to get done and get off the books,” said Quilty.

Back in 2018, the Blue Jays Care Foundation donated $150,000 for the purchase of lights at the Peter Barry Duff Field.
