Burned out Carbonear buildings to be torn down
By Mark Squibb/August 12, 2022
Two downtown Carbonear buildings ravished by fire over the Easter weekend will be torn down.
During last week’s meeting, council issued a demolition order to the property owner of 212 and 216 Water Street. Under the order, the property owner will have to remove the dilapidated buildings, and any debris or materials still on the property.
Two people were displaced as their apartments were destroyed by the fire, and a sewing business storefront, The Sewing Room, was also lost.
Provincial Fire and Emergency Services and RCMP deemed the fire accidental.
