Paradise awards ice maintenance contract

By Mark Squibb/May 12, 2022

Hockey players and figure skaters alike will be glad to hear that Paradise will be keeping its ice surfaces frosty for another five years.

The Town issued a tender that closed on February 25 for a five-year ammonia ice plant maintenance contract, and received just one submission, that being from Symco Refrigeration, at a total contract cost of $75,820 over a five-year period.

“While this is certainly a unique service with limited competition, as reflected in the lack of bidding, the rates provided are deemed very reasonable and acceptable,” said Infrastructure and Engineering Committee chairperson Deborah Quilty during last week’s meeting.

Quilty also noted the contract value per year ebbs and flows depending on what maintenance needs to be done any particular year.

The motion passed unanimously.
