A fire that ravished two downtown buildings in Carbonear over the Easter weekend has been deemed accidental.
The RCMP informed The Shoreline the Fire Scene Investigator with Provincial Fire and Emergency Services, as well as RCMP officers who attended the blaze and conducted an investigation had determined the cause was accidental.
Firefighters were called to the scene around 7 p.m. that Thursday night, and battled the flames into the early hours of Good Friday morning. After a brief respite, firefighters were called back after the blaze started up again.
Two people were displaced as their apartments were destroyed by the fire, and a sewing business storefront, The Sewing Room, was also lost.
The blaze drew hundreds of spectators who lined Water Street and nearby roads to watch the buildings burn.
