Northern Bay men arrested after scuffle with police

Eighty-year-old Sylvester Woodfine Sr. and 47-year-old Sylvester Woodfine Jr. are facing charges, including assaulting a police officer, following a disturbance at their Northern Bay home last night.

Shortly after 8:30 p.m. on Thursday evening, Harbour Grace RCMP responded to a report of a disturbance at a residence.  Officers attended the scene, spoke to the occupants of the home and de-escalated the disturbance. 

An arrest warrant was outstanding for Woodfine Sr. for a charge of uttering threats.  The officer informed him that he was under arrest.  Woodfine Sr. became irate, assaulted the officer using various items within the home and resisted arrest.  Woodfine Jr. also became irate, threatened and assaulted another officer, and tried to interfere with the arrest of Woodfine Sr.  Both men were taken into custody without further incident and were removed from the home.

The two men attended court today.  Sylvester Woodfine Sr. is charged with assaulting a police officer with a weapon and resisting arrest.  He was released from custody to appear at a later date.  Sylvester Woodfine Jr. is charged with assaulting a police officer, obstruction and uttering threats.  He was remanded into custody and will appear in court again on Monday.
