Carbonear pitching in for Wolverines’ vehicle

by Mark Squibb/March 3, 2022

The Town of Carbonear will help cover some of the cost of a new vehicle that the Avalon North Wolverines Search and Rescue group hopes to acquire.

“They’re looking to purchase a new mobile command post and asked if we could make a donation,” explained Councilor Chris O’Grady, chairman of council’s finance committee. “The most we can recommend is $200, so the committee is suggesting we could make a donation of $200 to this group because of the great work they do.”

The motion passed unanimously.

Another donation request, however, did not get the green light from council — at least not yet.

O’Grady said the Town has received a similar request from the Splash Centre in Harbour Grace.

“We had some discussion on that, but we are going to defer that until we get some more information,” said O’Grady. “We’ll talk about that one again down the road.”
