Paradise looking for residents to serve on war memorial committee

The Town of Paradise will soon begin searching for folks to sit on a War Memorial committee.

“The (recreation) committee are working on expressions of interest for committee members to sit on a new war memorial committee to focus on the Korean War ceremony, Canada Day Memorial service, as well as Remembrance Day,” explained committee chairperson Elizabeth Laurie during her recreation update at a council meeting earlier this month.

The need for such a committee arose in November, when a last-minute decision to cancel the public Remembrance Day ceremony in favour of a small, indoor, private ceremony because of weather conditions irked some residents.

Following Remembrance Day, each member of council acknowledged receiving complaints about the decision. The idea of potentially forming a committee to plan for such remembrance ceremonies, which are typically done by local Legions, of which there is none in Paradise, was then floated.
